Cervical cancer is a very common form of cancer found in the women. It is for this reason that attempts are made to develop a vaccine to cure this deadly disease. The root cause of cervical cancer is a virus called human papillomavirus. It is also referred to as HPV. The aim of cervical cancer vaccine is to eliminate this virus from the body. The vaccines provide protection from this virus.

Gardasil is one of the first vaccines developed. It is reported to be highly effective. Cervarix is another vaccine for this cause. These vaccines block the causes of the cervical cancer viruses like the human papillomavirus from getting to the core part of the body.

The cervical cancer virus types are divided into a few categories. Both the above stated vaccines protect against the HPV types 16 and 18. On the other hand, the Gardasil vaccine also prevents from types 6 and 11. Types 16 and 16 are the causes of nearly three-fourths of the cases.

Some side effects of using these vaccines have also been observed. Some of them include soreness at the spot of injection, dizziness, feverish sensation and fainting. But given the impetus of this disease, the side effects reported are hardly significant.
