The originating location of the leukemia cancer is the blood forming tissues of the body. In the person affected with leukemia, bone marrow produces white blood cells which are abnormal in nature and these abnormal cells are known as leukemia cells. Leukemia cells do not die when the yare supposed to, rather they surround the red blood cells, platelets and interfere with their functioning. Depending on the seriousness of the stage leukemia cancer, it is categorized into two: chronic leukemia and acute leukemia.

In chronic leukemia the leukemia cells will do the function of white blood cells and it is mild at initial stage and then becomes worse. In acute leukemia, leukemia cells will not do the function of white blood cells and it becomes quickly such that the survival time of the patient is calculated in terms of months. Swelling of lymph node, disturbed mental state, confusion, fever, frequent infections are some of the symptoms of leukemia.

Some other signs are unexplained loss in weight, weak feeling. Biological therapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and stem cell transplants are some of the treatment methods of leukemia. Excessive exposure to radiation, smoking, x-ray, and chemical like benzene increases the chance of leukemia.
